I have always believed that Kipngetich was not suitable for the job at KWS. He is a finance guy and not a conservation scientist and maybe thus the lack of passion of the job and eventual exit. It's the high time that KWS was headed by the right professional. There are many PhDs in conservation in Kenya, some with MBAs, and one of these could lead the institution. Even KNH should be headed by a doctor who understands medical issues and not a finance guy.

Anyway let Kipngetich, as a finance guy, go to Equity, his professional area. It must have been tough at KWS leading a team of top conservation scientists/professionals when he wasn't one.

20 years after you graduate, you specialisation becomes irrelevant! Like Einstein once said, "education is what remains AFTER you forget everything you were taught in school" 20 years down the road, you are bound to forget...

How do you move from CEO to deputy CEO?

Cash!

There must have been more cash at KWS. Tourism is one of the country's biggest forex earner and he was managing natural resource which is the basis of tourism. Not to mention the other fringe benefits like having a couple of helicopters, speedboats, an army of rangers etc at your disposal. And alot of foreign travel to all those conservation meetings sijui in Rio, Singapore, Austria etc etc. Not to mention the millions from donor funds since CEOs are normally given some honorarium from the donor projects by the institution.

What do you mean? Do you know what was the worst period. Hata kama ulizaliwa the other day, please do some small research and you will have the right facts.

@tassia,you do the research for your self.
.....focus on the poaching issue,as to when i was born is non of your business.if you are old enough you should know how to at least think.
.....read below from global post.

"The 247 tusks discovered on March 30 are thought to are estimated to be worth about $3.3 million, illustrating the lucrative nature of a global illegal trade that threatens to decimate Africa’s wildlife"

The head of Kenya’s wildlife authority blamed the Chinese for the slaughter of more than 100 elephants and 20 rhinos in this East African country alone last year.

“Ninety percent of all the people who pass through our airports and are apprehended with illegal wildlife trophies are Chinese,” said Julius Kipng’etich, director of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
...2009 was the worst year Kenya had recorded in decades for poaching — with 249 elephants killed, up from 140 in 2008 and only 47 in 2007.

“I suspect that a lot of the killing being done in Kenya is carried out by wildlife department personnel ...”

~Richard Leakey, Kenyan conservationist.

And who was Director of KWS in 2008 and 2007?

By the way, have you checked how leaky performed as Director of KWS .... and later in government as head of Civil Service - the so-called dream team [that included Naikuni and Oduor-Otieno?

At least we now know there will be Equity after JM. The rest is not important. Here is a guy who used to ride in KWS pool Double Cabs while other CEO's ride in Prados complete with chase cars. Tells you a lot about the man.

Joining Equity is his biggest mistake – He will not last 18 Months.

Working with JM as none Executive Director is different from being an Employee. Rumors have it that JM does not listen to any opinion from any employee. I can bet he will last a maximum of 18 Months.

i really want to bring to your attention
one: the time kws was under the white directors, it was under too much trouble, eg leakey and croonies enjoyed supplying to kws at exorbitant rates, next was David Western both with tabia of hiring so called expatriates who were paid too much of what our graduates in UON,Moi Univ and the kws institute could do, next is the cropping (so called to allow for hunting of some impalas and such other delicacies), the bad blood between kws and the local communities was highest during his tenure... want more.... and people in glass houses do not throw stones... Richard Leakey left kws in disgrace

Shakeel Shabir accused
Wildlife and Forestry minister Noah Wekesa of being among people who forced Mr Kipng’etich to resign.
“The minister and a clique of people who were cutting down Mt Kenya Forest forced Kipng’etich to resign.
Kipng’etich has named the minister himself,” Mr Shabir told Parliament.
