Hi All,

I would like to import an oxygen sensor for my car from an autoparts website based in the usa. It costs about 100 usd shipped to nairobi via EMS. Is there tax on such an item and roughly what percentage of the cost?. Advice will be appreciated.

I have sent in vehicle parts where duty/tax needed to be paid. I'm not sure who determines this but someone at customs calls the shots.
On occasion the tax is low, sometimes it is high. (receipt or not).
Depending on who decides how much you will pay, prepare for surprises.

Scenario 1. I sent a spare part for a merc roughly valued at $75... but somehow the genuine receipt presented was dismissed and tax demanded was close to twice the value of the part.
Scenario 2. I sent a diesel generator valued at $2750. I 'doctored' the receipt/invoice to reflect a value of $800...., I was only charged VAT on the Fake receipt.

So I tend to find it easier dealing with those warias or others who do the same (like Morey). As long as I know the weight, I know what to expect to pay.

Depends with who you find on the day,
Someone might choose to charge tax based on real value or reciepted ampount.

I just pull the guy Kando and ...

I've imported stuff via DHL more than once and they did use the actual receipt value for calculation purposes.
