Yes, I’ve been axed by my employer & here is my story:
1. I was bringing home 150k, wife still working & brings 70k.
2. Got 3 school going kids in private prestigious schools- God knows I can't stand see them go through any change of lifestyle.
3. My mortgage was in process, I've suspended it.
4. We've lost a comprehensive family medical cover.
Mostly, I want to be employed so am updating my CV and sending out to all who cares. I was never prepared for this, am stressed & not sure where or how to start.
With less than 500k in my hands, what are my options? Benefits gone to clear sacco loan I had purchased land (in konza) last year.
I am an IT techie & part time car mechanic.
Let's work with what you have. I'll call it sh500k [even though you say it's less] plus sh70k pm income [I assume this is the net figure]
you also have a plot in Konza (any other assets?)
First things first: draw up a budget that MUST fit in the sh70k. Cut down as much of unnecessary expenditure as possible, but still give yourself some "entertainment" allowance - without it you will die of stress!
Reserve the sh 500k to be taking care of the school fees and medical cover. HOWEVER, if this figure cannot pay for two years of fees, move the kids to a cheaper school.
Now with 3 kids, you can get a decent cover for about sh75k pa in two years, that's 150k.
So can the remaining 350k pay school fees for 2 years?
If the answer is NO; then move the kids to a cheaper school. And have no fears about it - I am sure you will agree with me that kids don't place a lot of VALUE at all on expensive material things!
My kids usually start off in private kindergarten where I pay about 40k per term. Then I transfer them to public school when they reach pre-unit where the fee is about 5k [mainly because of lunch].
I promise you, they don't get depression!
Once you have those basics sorted out, your life will continue as if nothing happened! And now you can begin to think about how to generate additional income.
If in two years you are still not stable; consider selling off that Konza plot.
HOWEVER: don't rush to sell it to star a new business! You will
most probably lose your money that way!!!!!
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.
