Really? why does she want to do the same things that every mama boutique in town is doing? Or what's taught in "fashion and design" in our schools? sio kushona? Why cant she start something unique that she can put her signature on? Why copy paste what the market is oversupplied with by those with little or no education in fashion? This is what annoys me about our education! NKT!

Mwambie aanze kitu mpya... aanze kushona, be creative, do a good job and keep time. she only needs to avoid the problems those who shonesha clothes have been facing. Delays, lies, bad workmanship etc etc!

with her degree she should be the one advising wazuans or else she has the degree certificate but no knowledge.

Alot of what is worn locally is imported as second hand or new clothes.
Mostly the sources of the imports are large investments exporting to many destinations and enjoy economies of scale, if a local common man is to venture into the same business(i.e produce locally to compete with imports) they would thus need to identify various needs that are not met in the local market and and probably fill in the void.
If your friend has resources to sustain her until such a time that she is able to make money then let her do her research and jump in.

the current trend in Ladies wear is dresses; imported, kitenge or even lesso.

Weddings are also big n if you can shona n simultaneously import, you'll not go wrong.

earlier this year I paid 6k for a bridesmaid dress- ya kushona. n these are made in bulk 4-10 pieces hence it'd be good to venture into that market.

@Wendz I agree with what you're saying, but don't be too hard on the girl. The one thing education cannot teach is vision, only a mentor can do that. And even then it's given - passed on as one flame lights another - never taught.

@S.MutagaIII Get back to us on any areas of interest she has when it comes to clothes. E.g. would she prefer to make or sell men's or women's clothing? African or European style? Official or casual? Jackets, Blazers, Dresses...

From there we can be able to give you some more in-depth advice/ideas.
