@gathinga,

if its the older version (oval in shape): from the Safaricom Mobile office window,settings&gt;&gt;choose network connection type&gt;&gt;3G only

if its the newer version (flash disk kind): from the Safaricom Broadband window,tools&gt;&gt; options&gt;&gt;network&gt;&gt;network type&gt;&gt;WCDMA only

The two mains concepts behind 3G is shared resource and dynamic coverage....the mentioned times are busy hours ....so you must be experiencing either of two scenerios with users are many hence low data throughputs or you at at edge of 3G coverage so you are thrown to edge...

make a formal complaint...to them
