Hey, Nov 11th you ask on how to be a contractor.... December 23rd you have started graveling and have another tender for school construction.... and December 30th you are chasing for money....... yawa... yaani these government officials are that fast in approving tenders? And even if they approved on Nov 12th, then boss, I admire your speed of working and i respect your liquidity - seriously. Ama sikuangalia vizuri the year of this post?

this mawinda guy must be giving us some inaccurate information about himself...

like @wendz noted mawinder first appears on 11th Nov. 2010 and asks for advise on how to be a building construction contractor...not started yet and totally inexperienced...

Dec 23rd 2010 he tells us that he has already won two tenders and another contract in waiting...awaiting award that is...

in January 2011 he tells us that he is already a registered contractor in Category D!!!!yaani within a span of 2 months mawinder is already in Category D...mind you not Category H, not G, not F, not E, but D, where he can tender for jobs worth kshs150 million...

let us see...

first...filling in the application for registration contractors document takes not less than a month because there is a lot of information that one is expected to fill in and attach as listed below:

(i) Company memorandum & articles of association...for you to be registered in this upper category your company must be a limited liability company. two months is simply not enough to register a company to the level of a limited status...

(ii) Certificate of incorporation..see one above.

(iii) Current business licence...straight forward

(iv) CVs of Directors...manageable in two months

(v) CVs of key personnel and their prfessional certificates...manageable in 2 months

(vi) Log books of the company vehicles...impossible in 2 months??

(vii)Bank statements and audited accounts...impossible in two months

(viii) Completion certificates or contract agreements for works and projects previously undertaken...impossible in 2 months

(ix) Vat registration certificate...impossible in 2 months

(x) Tax compliance certificate...impossible in 2 months

(xi) Professional and technical references from professionals and clients that your company has worked for...impossible in 2 months..

(xii) Inspection of your company plant and equipment..impossible for a newbie..

secondly..once you submit the registration application document to the area works officer it takes at least a month for the document to be received at the offices of contractor registration secretariat assuming that everything is in order and the works officer (mostly district works officer) does his job efficiently...

Thirdly...it takes another one to two months before the contractor registration committee sits to deliberate on the already received applications for registration and upgrading, reason being that they have to wait for a substantial application documents to be forwarded to the secretariat...

fourthly...it may take upto another month before you get a letter confirming your registration if the committee does not recommend any referals or further submitals...

conclusion...this @mawinder guy is fake and is telling us a lot of lies...BBK!!NKT!!!

in all fairness how did you to come to the conclusion that i employ or employed quack road engineers?

Dear Mawinder,

My humble apologies for a late reply. I took m ages to travel on our roads before I could get to my computer unfortunately I still use a desktop.

I have nothing against you personally, in fact I don't even know you( Thank you Wazua for anonymity). But from the speed in which you change professions, initially road engineer, used oil salesman, and then a sugar vendor. I can only suspect you are in it to make a quick buck and get out.

You unfortunately epitomize what is ailing our economy. You are not in any business long enough to build it to grow. You just want a contract make your cash and move on. In you greed you will cut whatever cost, bribe whoever needs to be bribed, lie to make get the contract. Once you get the contract you have to then bribe, cut cost, lie and generally do a shoddy job.

You are the filth, theoretically speaking, that is rotting this country from it core.

Nonetheless my little tirade will not get through foggy view of the world and you will probably just lump me as a hater trying to bring you down.

Now to answer your question. I was using probabilities. Most roads built by local contractors don't last and since your username is not lu, wong, or fong you probably are a local contractor and since you built you road in "record" time and got paid in equally "record" time you probably cut corners and did some shoddy ass shit! So you probably hired quacks!

@ tony stark...you have been very right about this mawinder right from the word go!!!

May be you could just give us the name of the road you built. Hopefully, it is not anything close to what is across NHIF going through to Britam/CBA HQ, or the one through KMA behind Nairobi club.

@mawinder: I thought you were a major roads contractor, and not into petroleum and sugar as you have stated elsewhere.

Just need to ask if National Construction Authority registers sole proprietors as contractors (General building contractor)?

Seems he's made quite some money since he became a road contractor. He's recently been asking for advice regarding tourist visas (for his family and servants) for his upcoming holiday in the UK.
