Of course it is! Sometimes back,the Standard newspaper ran an article on it,infact for 2 days. It was called Trash is Cash,or something of the sort.......... Garbage from Nairobi has made people millionaires,since the NCC cannot provide all Nairobi citizens with disposal services.

What kind of garbage biz do you want exactly? Disposing or recycling? Have a clear idea;there is so much one can do with garbage. But be prepared for battles,there are garbage cartels existing and they are being run by Mungiki and other groups.

@ Msichana Mzuri.. thats true.It is a viable business oppurtunity,especially if you carry it out in slums like mathare,kibra and others where the city council neglects..

Green loop international,a recycling firm in Central buys this garbage and recycles it.You can also do it yourself.

Anybody out there with enough zeal for this,i have'got insights.

@ KITUSURE

Garbage biz is either recycling or disposal…if u want disposal services,be ready for a fight; there are several garbage cartels existing already run by militia groups,….about recycling,I think it’s the way to go……..too bad most Kenyans do not separate their trash; they mix it all n one bag and throw it away…

NEMA is coming up with a policy which will educate people and (for lack of a better term),the garbage boys J on how they should separate the trash right from their homes to the garbage site………… (Recyclables and non-recyclables)……………or u can start a manure biz by buying the organic waste and making it into manure…..or buy the plastics wastes (water bottles,e.t.c.) and sell to industries…….or buy the old tyres and make them into akala shoes; or sell to garages………like I said there is sooo much u can do with trash……..Visit NEMA if u can,u will get a lot of information……I went to the Dandora dumpsite personally and got a lot of info…..make time to do this coz there is money to be made if u are serious…..

@ Cardinal..........drop me a mail.......

At anybody out there interested in this venture,i am ready to offer some info about it. i have been involved in a several UNEP,UNESCO funded programs about it.Especially in slums and those middle class areas in kenyan cities.Just ask n i will reply,we need not exchange emails.

Instead of using your capital to buy the essential equipments n stuff,its advisable to look for potential investors and organisations that fund these kind of projects,like world bank,UNEP,oxford and EU.However,your plan/proposal must be solid enough

@msichana mzuri/xtina,we are in touch,we apologized remember.

@ kitusure and all
You can also go to Ministry of Environment and NR for any enquiries regarding waste disposal......wish Michuki ran every ministry in Kenya.....

It is.
I initiated it as a social enterprise activity for a youth group I helped found and it was extremely rewarding-challenges abound though but they are manageable.
go for it.
