A carburetor IS NOT regulating the flow of air and gasoline into the engine cylinders.What could be the problem?

For a Mercedes? Just no need to trying to figure out what's wrong. Just go to DT Dobie, ask them to fix the car, pay [through your nose] and drive on!
Otherwise, sell the Mercedes and buy an EFI Toyota [or Nissan from DT Dobie].

@ sonko, man am afraid this benz of yours will make you a pauper soon. a month is not over since you went looking for a mechanicand now the carburetor has refused? Sell the damn thing man! i.am.back!!!!

...And remember whatever was wrong with his his cars, it was always, "The tappets are knowing"...whether it is a deflated tyre, a door not closing ...what a mechanical genious...I always read the book when I want a good laugh!
