Ok. Let's not go overboard here. This microsoft logo could only pass because of practicability (which I'm almost certain was their intent) but it's not creative at all.
But think about it, Microsoft products are functional - they get the work done, they are not aspirational neither are they status symbols like the likes of Apple and hence the practical/functional logo.
