Dear investors:>>Recently,I read the CIC chairman Mr.Nyachae saying that companies'boards at the NSE should comply with the constitution's one third gender rule.CMA's Gatabaki has also hinted at the same thing. What do other investor's think of this? I thought while its OK to encourage both gender in Company's boards, its not mandatory because listed companies are not "government owned".Your views?

I don't think the one third gender rule as per the constitution applies to boards.
However, what Gatabaki is doing is encouraging companies to appoint more female board members to publicly listed co.s.
Just my thinking.

These people need to watch the movie "Disclosure" [starring Demi Moore, Michale Douglas, Donald Sutherland & Rosemary Forsyth].

It's the story of a company Founder President [Sutherland] who's due to retire and is looking for a successor. Douglas was expecting to get the job but Sutherland names Moore instead.

Problems erupt [involving sexual harassment and incompetence claims] and eventually, Sutherland changes his mind and drops Moore.

When announcing the new successor, he says something like: "I was preoccupied with the notion that I must give this job to a woman and I lost sight of the fact that I should have been looking for right person. Now I have seen the light and my successor shall be.......Forsyth"

It's a lesson we should not forget in private institutions. While looking for a woman to take over, Sutherland settled on Moore, who turned out to be the wrong person for the job. Interestingly, the right person for the job was actually another woman [Forsyth]!
