Women in Togo have been urged to abstain from sex for a week from Monday to push their demand for reform.

The ban has been called by opposition coalition Let's Save Togo, made up of nine civil society groups and seven opposition parties and movements.

Opposition leader Isabelle Ameganvi said that sex could be a "weapon of the battle" to achieve political change.

The coalition wants President Faure Gnassingbe, whose family has held power for decades, to stand down.
Activists say that the strike will motivate men who are not involved in the political movement to pursue its goals, which include an end to the system allowing unlimited presidential terms..

a noble cause...i hope they spent enough time to do the maths...in case the ratio of women to men is 1.5:1 the strike is not going anywhere...
...besides, the presence of a safe alone does not signify that there is money inside...

Men can be tough headed. This is a noble cause.
Think about a changed country vs a one week abstinence.
IMO, lack of sex never killed anybody but poor leadership does.
I wish Togo men could coperate.

let us be practical...if it were a place like nairobi most of the women would end up paying rents themselves...why??? the ratio of women to men is about 4:1 and the men are calling the shots because of high demand...ni haki yao!!that is the kenyan scenario, i dont know about togo.

...lack of sex always kills all the time....you know men have always killed other men because of women...not because the men want to sit with women on the opposite side and crack jokes and laugh...hapaaana!!!
...besides, the presence of a safe alone does not signify that there is money inside...

Remember that story of hare and hyena when they planned to kill their mothers?
If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.

The 'civil society activists' in Kenya tried this sometime ago. Needless to say, the number of landings increased that week!
Even men who usually landed once a month, iyo wiki walijaribu wakafanya 'mazoezi' ya ziada. Why should outside people dictate when I have sex? I don't know the president. Kama ni siasa they should just tell Togolese to vote for 'the other guy'. Ati nikaziwe! Nkt! Mscheew!

Those activists in Nairobi even tried to tell the prostitutes in K'Street to keep off work and they will provide for them for the duration
