Si phombe peke yake. Even the mineral water, juices & other liquid stuff that we often take may also be compromised.
Money has no morals!

And Mae company is 'eating' chlorine for tap water.. it's not the safest. Banana's are being ripened chemically, what is a Kenyan to consume?

This manenos of formaldehyde and battery cells in those quarter bottles is not exactly new. Its just that many people do not have ears on the ground and therefore dont get to hear the nefarious business their fellow citizens get up to. The ARVs part is a new twist though. This is sad. Anyhow, non drinkers please stop with the indignation and self-righteousness. With common sense and care those who drink ...like myself ...can do so and do it safely (even not get drugged). Kila nyani na starehe zake ...I like to think that a few Tuskers are relaxing ..keeping the reality outside the door for a few hours ...living a little. Each to his own.....can do without the morality lectures.

Unless they start selling it as unga ya Jogoo, am safe.

Its not all bad though, those women might be responsible for protecting some partakers of the concoction from contracting HIV.

Lamivudine

Lamivudine is not suitable for everyone and some people should never use it. Other people should only use it with special care. It is important that the person prescribing this medicine knows your full medical history. About one out of every three people who take lamivudine will experience headache, nausea and fatigue. Some of the other possible side effects are abdominal pain, vomiting, muscle and joint pain and infections.

Nevirapine

Nevirapine has been widely used in adults as one of a combination of drugs to treat established HIV infection. It has a special role in the prevention of mother to child transmission (MTCT) of HIV, as it is effective when given alone as a single dose to the mother at the beginning of labour and one dose administered to the baby within 72 hours of birth. Nevirapine given to HIV-positive pregnant women rapidly crosses the placenta into the fetus with its effects lasting through the first week of life. The timing of its delivery to the mother during labour is important as up to two-thirds of infants born with HIV are infected in the birth canal.
Clinical trials have confirmed the efficacy of nevirapine in preventing mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV. No trials are available comparing nevirapine with placebo. The Ugandan HIVNET 012 study involving 626 women showed that nevirapine was able to reduce MTCT by 47%, with only 8.1% of infants exposed to nevirapine acquiring HIV at birth.1 Almost all the babies were breast fed, resulting in ongoing exposure to HIV. Despite this, the benefits of nevirapine were maintained with a 42% reduction in transmission at the age of 12 months.

Zidovudine (AZT)

"A clinical trial known as BW 002 compared AZT with placebo in 282 patients with AIDS or advanced signs or symptoms of HIV disease. In this study, which led to the approval of AZT by the FDA, only one of 145 patients treated with AZT died compared with 19 of 137 placebo recipients in a six month period. Opportunistic infections occurred in 24 AZT recipients and 45 placebo recipients. In addition to reducing mortality, AZT was shown to have reduced the frequency and severity of AIDS-associated opportunistic infections, improved body weight, prevented deterioration in Karnofsky performance score, and increased counts of CD4+ T lymphocytes in the peripheral blood (Fischl et al., 1987; Richman et al., 1987). Continued follow-up in 229 of these patients showed that the survival benefit of AZT extended to at least 21 months after the initiation of therapy; survival in the original treatment group was 57.6 percent at that time, whereas survival among members of the original placebo group was 51.5 percent at nine months (Richman and Andrews, 1988; Fischl et al., 1989)."
