Following the launch of a money transfer service by NMG, I am wondering what the impact would be long term on the three stocks affected, 1) MPESA BANK 2) DTB 3) NMG

Is there any chance that Nation Hela will one day be the defacto transfer service for Kenyans in Diaspora?

My guess is whoever will come up with a service that offers competitive exchange rates and cuts off the middleman (ie can deposit in local banks directly) will win the day.

From what I have seen on Nation Hela, it does not offer these items

Don't be too sure alma, if a stranger sells tomatoes cheaper than my brother, I will never buy from the brother. primitive loyalty is dead!it all about the best and cheapest way to Deliver services.

this nation hela won't go very far in terms of diaspora remittances this being that people abroad have much cheaper options for sending money back home, take for instance, a friend who works in london operates an account with nationwide bank, he took the atm card and sent it to his family in kenya such that when he needs to send money to the wife he deposits cash to this account and the wife in kenya withdraws the amount using the atm card and the whole thing costs 1.75£ regardless of the amount withdrawn which is capped at 40k per transaction, I believe this is cheaper than most international money options out there, so am seeing this nation hela product cooling down after the novelty phase in terms of diaspora remittances, in the kenyan market it could be a hit or not

As for the Kenyan market, well, there's mpesa and it seems each and every marketing manager from strathmore has convinced their boards to have their own card. So you tell me how hot it will be.

If u intend to introduce a new service into the market let it have an extraordinary competitive advantage for it to sell.
What I see is a rush to introduce a service which offers nothing better or unique than what we already have. Did they research well about the other services available or was it just an effort to make a name for themselves?
Ama they think the brand alone will sell?

The people who may really benefit are freelancers who are paid online via PayPal. Definitely there are better options of money transfer and one should purchase after knowing for certain that it will be of some benefit to them.

Nation and DTB have come up with something creative for Kenya. Let's give credit where credit is due.

thought i would take it but NO. They talked of 12 dollars charge for transfering 200 dollars- crazy! i would rather keep my payoneer master card prepaid which gives an 82bob to dollar rate.

The £1.75 is not the only charge. It depends on the EXCHANGE RATE she receives. The spread for some banks e.g. Barclays or Equity can be 10% between buy/sell e.g. Buy 80 (midprice-wholesale 84) Sell 88. The 5% between the buy & wholesale is what one should also consider.

what do u mean by peculiar and strange?
Are u refering to a brand? 'SAFARICOM'?

What matters most to you as a customer? is it the name, the service,the cost or all combined?

I have been a loyal safcom customer cz of service.I care less about brand.(If that is what we mean by strange and peculiar).

Safcom and Nation imo,can easily sell cz they have taken years and money to build a brand name.
This is what I see nation doing here.Riding on brand to sell.
If they can match that with quality and cost, the bigger their market share will be.
Will they get clients? definately those who love nation.
But for the cost conscious ones,many options exist if what I am reading here about charges are true.

This has to be the best news this year so far online merchants.

Many have been waiting for a formal solution to paypal's withdraw hurdle.

The deal is not bad, KES 70 to withdraw up to KES 70,000?

There's also free Agent Deposits. Does this mean that it is free to deposit?
