Other than creating profitable websites,my main passion is organic farming.

I am looking for a place where I can buy earthworms. Many earthworms.

If you know of anyone who's doing vermiculture or any other source of earthworms,I would be very happy.

@alma

Out of curiosity? what do you need earthworms for? If you go to Nyandarua,any part of Nyandarua around July/Aug (when its wet and green),you will have tonnes of those things. you could mobilise the villagers..... want them alive or dead? packaging?

Some deals are like glass. Sometimes it's better to leave them broken than try to hurt yourself putting it back together.

@Wendz,I did consider mobilising a few kids but I need a lot of those critters and a particular kind for it to work.

It is so serious that I am actually considering importing them from South Africa seeing that no one or few people in Kenya have even considered them.

Earthworms are essential if you are doing organic farming. In fact,they are much better than commercial fertilizer. I want to do it for my mom to stop buying those damn fertilizers and also to give her an income that will literally be growing by the minute.

There is a lot in modern agriculture other than keeping what everyone else keeps and earthworms are the best thing that God created. If anyone who has a farm wants to compare expensive commercial fertilizer and these beautiful crawlers,give me a holler.

But first get me a source for them especially the African wriggler or a red wriggler.

Oh,by the way,I want them very alive and kicking.

Yes it is a tough assignment.

I have worked on it for a long time and everything is ready to go. Then all of a sudden I discover that I can't get commercial red wrigglers in Kenya. Who would have thunk that?

I actually tried looking for some black flies but even those are impossible to source unless I import. I figured some guy at the airport will scream bloody murder so I considered earthworms. I am sure someone is doing it,just can't find anyone.

Commercial black flies are being used in Brazil to clear their garbage dumps and earthworms are now the latest craze in organic farming. So if anyone has a source I am crying again,please help!!
By the way,I really nearly went to that corner by Djinn.lol

Fundaah thanks,I have done worm farming before but not in Kenya. That is the reason why I am stuck at a point where I didn't expect a problem....I just need the source for the wrigglers. I can send you a few dvd's on organic farming if you wish from real farmers.....I just need the damn wrigglers!

@Alma (now with my serious face on) - when we were kids,living near Lake Victoria,we'd sometimes play truant and go fishing. Hunting for worms was an unpleasant prelude to the afternoon's activities. Not sure if its the same now,but there were acres of marshland around the lake,mostly behind the papyrus. So with some methodical picking we could get so many worms such that,at the end of it all,whatever was left always outweighed the fish. Worms the length of a man's palm. Not sure if that is the type you seek. I recall the marsh was loamy sort of....almost like black cotton but not quite...

:) Djinn

It actually wasn't what I was looking for.

@all

I found a perfect source in Thika. I was going crazy over this.

I would suggest that anyone doing business in Kenya had better get a website. I nearly bought from South Africa. Thanks to the sk member who wishes to remain anonymous.
