karanjakinuthia wrote:Mother Nature has a weird sense of humour. She seems to favour the adage "when it rains, it pours". During the 1930s, the United States was faced with both a sovereign debt crisis that emanated from Europe and the Dust Bowl (see John Steinbeck's novel, "The Grapes of Wrath") that devastated agriculture from 1934. According to Herbert Hoover's Memoirs, the European Sovereign Debt Crisis extinguished the green shoots of recovery that had began to sprout in April of 1931 after the stock market crash of 1929. Interestingly, capital fleeing the 1931 Sovereign Debt Crisis found cover in common stocks and commodities. Chicago Wheat staged a recovery from the Monday, 18 July 1932 low of US $0.445 per bushel to the high on Friday, 1 January 1937 of US $1.352. Seeing that the United States is facing the same headwinds from a European Sovereign Debt Crisis and a drought not witnessed in 100 plus years, it is safe to assume that capital flight will seek safe harbour in common stocks and commodities. The Chicago Wheat low price of US $5.6525 per bushel on 1 July 2012 is cyclically significant. We could see the price test US $17.1734 per bushel by 2015 or 2020. "WASHINGTON - U.S. scientists say July was the hottest month ever recorded in the Lower 48 states, breaking a record set during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. They say climate change is a factor. And even less a surprise: The U.S. this year keeps setting records for weather extremes, based on the precise calculations that include drought, heavy rainfall, unusual temperatures, and storms. The average temperature last month was 77.6 degrees (25 Celsius). That breaks the old record from July 1936 by 0.2 degree, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Records go back to 1895..." Read more: http://www.montrealgazet...tory.html#ixzz2329doxbs

The Bank of England has cut its growth forecast to close to zero from about 0.8% predicted in May, as the double-dip recession intensifies. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19174649
Some members of the eurozone may have to leave the bloc as the debt crisis continues, according to one of the architects of the euro. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19183700

FAO Food commodity price index - Cereal rallying above 2011 highs... FAO Food price index 17% rise in cereal prices drives 6% FFPI rise - http://www.ingredientsne...ices-drives-6-ffpi-rise
Quote:The FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) averaged 213 points in July 2012, as much as 12 points (6%) up from June, but still well below the peak of 238 points reached in February 2011. The July surge of the Index followed three months of decline.
The sharp rebound was mostly driven by a jump in grain and sugar prices, and more modest increases in oils/fats. International prices of meat and dairy products were little changed. $15/barrel oil... The commodities lehman moment arrives as well as Sovereign debt volcano!

I was not aware of this yuan bonds for Africa CBs. Didn't expect Tz CB to be a top dim sum bond buyer alongside Nigeria (expected due to their public declaration on foreign reserves diversification).
I hope CBK got some piece of action. But IMF pouring funds of late in KE, I highly doubt Ndungu got to buy this dim sum bond offer...

Market fear gauge at 5yr low 'an optical illusion' That was CNN Money headline back on March 15 2012 http://money.cnn.com/201...ear-index-vix/index.htm The CBOE VIX index is at it again, at 5yr lows, actually lower than in March. US markets have in the process recovered from the April-July selling bout and trying to test the 2012 highs. Another selling bout period is coming... Just like back in March, the trade protection to take is BGZ longs. With vapour volume pushing the market up from July lows, the bulls will not stand a chance when the correction ensues. www.zerohedge.com/news/v...x-plunges-five-year-lows$15/barrel oil... @ Hisah, a financial cliff the year 2013 will be. That should add to the witches brew of rising unemployment, drought, rising food prices and general feeling of discontent with the wealthy and ruling class in the United States. karanjakinuthia wrote:The United States: Timing the Path to Unrest
Dear Friends,
Let us begin with cycle analysis by Martin Armstrong. The 224 Year Cycle of Political Change in the United States peaked in 1637 with the revolution in England to end torture from the infamous Star Chamber. Adding 224 to 1637 brings us to 1861, the upheaval of the American Civil War.
The Cycle points to 2013 (1861+112+31.4+8.6) as beginning of political unrest in the United States feeding off the 8.6 year political down-cycle in Iran/Persia and Europe. Tremors are already being felt. Protests have begun in cash strapped Wisconsin, spreading to Ohio over budget cuts that will affect public workers.
