hi all,
kindly assist with any information regarding the process associated with an application for guardianship of a child.
the story is that my wife's niece who is 16yrs old lost both her parents a few years back and since then we have been taking care of her, we want to now be recognized as her legal guardians and before we formally begin the process we would like to familiarize ourselves with the whole process hence this request.
any info will be highly appriciated.
thanx people.

See the nearest District Children's Officer. He will assist you with all the information and won't charge a penny. They can also assist in filing Court papers in a situation where there are no disputes.

thanks
.

IMHO:

The Children's officer will give you invaluable info. The process may entail an adoption which should be easier since there is proven relationship/kinship between the persons applying for adoption and the child.

talked to the district children's officer nearest to me and she referred me to a government organization called NALEP located on the 9th floor of Kenya charity sweepstakes house where I was able to get the ball rolling and the whole process will cost us less than 10k as opposed to 80k a lawyer I had talked to was charging
