The knife cuts both ways. When guys below you work their butts off and come up with new ideas, you take all the credit. When things go wrong, you take all the blame!
But seriously, if the CEO cannot take the blame, who should take it? what would be your work as the CEO? You are supposed to run the show and detect the ship goes off course and take corrective measures immediately.
But I agree with you @Euge. Being a CEO is TOO much responsibility. If the passion is not there (for the industry or company) you should avoid it!
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.
