Wazuans. Your take on these 3 SUVS on;
(i)Consumption
(ii)Perceived prestige
(iii) Price
(iv) Resale values
(v) On-road and offroad perfomance
(vi) Service
(vii) Parts availability

Which generation of each of these SUVs are your contemplating?

Because Honda CRV had to-date had 3 generations. Ditto Rav 4 and Mitsubishi Outlander

Even without u responding the Recreational Active Vehicle 4-wheel drive vehicle (RAV)4 scores well on most of your parameters above.

Except prestige maybe (and the 3rd generation RAV4 does have good looks/prestige), the other aspects above are fairly in favor of RAV 4 which is not a wonder as it is one of the earliest SUVs that actually encouraged dvelopment of the other 2 (CRV & Outlander)SUVs.

However, the RAV is perceived as a soft-offroader and the earliest model (1st generation) was perceived a girl's car. The 2 door models were perceived to be totally a girlie's ride. Many men shunned both until the second and 3rd generation RAV 4s appeared. It also handles the road well.

CRV is heavier, stabler and appears therefore comparatively safer. It is real mabati, not the fibre body ya Nissan X-trail near the bonnet. The 2nd generation CRV has lots of improvement on the 1st CRV, and is roomier and they were even nice to throw in a picnic table for your huko kwa boot. CRV Will give u say 12km @ ltr, spare parts slightly more than Rav 4s and dealers not as widespread.

Got nil experience with the Outlander so maybe another wazua can state theirs...

@Intelli. Thanks for this. For clarity, am comparing RAV4 2nd Generation(CA20W), and CRV 2nd generation also, and Mitsumbishi Outlander 2st generation (2003)

As for Mitsubishi outlander Ride is quite good, but a tad stiff for some. As an off-roader , it is the best (out of the rest above) It will take any terrain you throw at it. It not as smooth as the CR-V or Rav 4 on flat roads. It also has good ground clearance. it’s not easy to scrape the underbody. CR-Vs bust their dampers due to low clearance.

There's also another discussion but does not include Outlander http://www.wazua.co.ke/f...aspx?g=posts&t=3802

BTW All three are considered soft off-roader and don't always come as 4WD. Some are Just 2WD. So if you are looking for a 4wd ..be sure it has 4wd capabilities and not only Fwd.

Again Rav 4 wins my vote ...simply because of they hold their resale value better than the rest!

Thanks wazuans. settled for CRV coz it comes appx. 300k cheaper than RAV4 on imports from Japan. I guess this sort of compensates for the loss of value of resale

Good choice. Had the same CRV for a while now and it does great. Never had issue with service or parts. Tymstar motors have been sorting me out(service) for some time. They specialise na honda..

For the sake of those who'd want a brand new one from the respective supplies - the rav4 costs more than a VW Tiguan according to a price list I have.

Between Forester and CR-V, what do you say about fuel consumption?

Honda has a long history of building very efficient engines with excellent fuel consumption. CRV fuel consumption is much better than Forrester
