An illegal act is an illegal act. It should be punished.

The severity of the punishment depends on the extent of the transgression. If one wants absolution go to one's church, mosque or temple.

Kenya's capital markets need to be cleaned up.

@murchr...what % of your portfolio is in Centum?

Those whose portfolios contain significant portions of centum will not agree with your sentiments about overreacting. By not diclosing, Mworia, denied shareholders (current and prospective) from taking informed decisions on the stock...and that my friend can make the difference between money made and money lost. And at the end of the day...Mworia suffers nothing!

If I were him, I would not have proffered the lame excuse about inability to value (nobody bought that crap)...its like saying that they just go to sleep and wake up at year to find out how their investments are doing. Investors dont pay fund managers to be passive...they pay them to be active managers.

...and yes (to confirm your thinking)...I am a memba of 'centum'

This reminds me of agency theory

So the shareholders will pay for the negligence of the directors? What's the point of the fine?

Yes, this is outrageous. I wonder what it will take to shake up our markets? Regulation is not up to it, and the rules and fines are in dire need to be re-written.
Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. You expend your energy, get paid money, and store that money for a future purchase made in a currency.

Sadly...in Kenya the directors/ceos mess up, the shareholders pay; the government messes up, mwana-nchi pays!

Mworia reduced his Centum holding from 0.05% to 0.02%. Lack of confidence?

He surely needs to go to jail if not hell! In a sane mkt this guy would be under investigation. Selling shares and skipping the profit warning? How convenient.

And the answer will be personal finance reasons.

The timing is conveniently just before the poor profits were announced. Remember there was NO profit warning issued.

Also ask WHO will pay the fine levied by the CMA? Will it be the directors from their allowances? Or the firm thus hurting ALL s/holders even those with no say?
