The interest expenses seems to have taken its toll. Operating income marginally down as the interest expenses shot up to 1.5 billion from 657 million.

Still, they must be expecting H2 to be much better as they raised the interim to 0.7 from 0.5 regardless of the marginal rise in profit...

@youcan'tstopusnow, H2 can only be better. H1 was messed up by the tight monetary policy by CBK. Mortgage sales went down 27% but the resilient Diamond (read HFCK) managed to post growth in profits.

With the period of monetary easing having been ushered in in the last MPC meeting, mortgage sales will pick, cost of deposits go down, and profits UP UP UP :d/ :d/ :d/

And the interim div is sweet smile smile smile

This company is really dishing out dividends. What did they give last year for FY.

A 3.5% rise in profits is hardly impressive.. Though i was shocked there was any growth at all..

In Q1 HFCK was the worst performer among the banks & i expect the trend to continue.. This means KCB & EB will probably announce growth in the region of 15-20%

I must say a stock that not only pays a 10% dividend yield but also gives half of it in the interim is a real gem!

I remember hearing @young claiming that huge dividends would not materialise in 2012..

I need to look at the results in detail but it seems the fear of defaults has reduced. And since HFCK has released their results, Equity should be close to doing so as well.

@youcan't @aguy, last year the overall div was KES 1.20

Last year interim dividend was KES 0.50 so this years interim div is a 40% increase

Final dividend last year was KES 0.70, so if its also increased by 40%, then this years final dividend will come in at KES 1.00 to make this year overall dividend KES 1.70

How nice this is

Let the market open. This counter has been having a buffer at the 15.00 level. even when the books closed, very few shares were traded at a price below this.

The Board of Directors have resolved to pay an interim dividend of Kshs. 0.70 per share, to be paid on or about 17th September 2012 to shareholders on the register at the close of business on 17th August 2012.

HF’s performance provides a pointer to the expected results from its peers in the banking sector, being the first lender to file H1 earnings when higher interest rates are expected to affect industry profits.
