Any new transmission lines, if KP is putting them up, they are doing it on behalf of Ketraco.

i think this is a lie!!

unless you are confusing transmission with distribution; I am correct

Are you saying KPs mandate to transmit power was taken away?? Is KETRACO the sole transmitter now??

I wasnt aware of this development!

The only transmission systems which are also reflected in their asset base remain with KP. New transmission lines are owned by the KETRACO. Distribution remains with KP.

For short term of less than 2yrs you can hold this stock but sell it once its up(if you are buying it now)Selling Price 17 - 19.

For longer than that period. Then wait until it reaches 10, then buy.

County govts to unlock Kenya Power’s grip on electricityCounty govts to unlock Kenya Power’s grip on electricity

For Kenya Power, the once giant utility company formerly known as Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), unbundling of various functions that have been transferred to other entities has left the company overly exposed.

Before the unbundling commenced sometimes in 1997, KPLC was a monopoly responsible for electricity generation, transmission and distribution.

But with the establishment of KenGen in 1997, KPLC lost the generation mandate and two years ago the formation of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco) has resulted in KPLC ceding the transmission mandate as well.

15.00 has been defended for over a month. demand at progressively higher levels. The share has touched what i believe to be a 7 month high of 15.45.

@guru. It is of concern. However the company is still grossly undervalued. When it is fairly valued i will sell.
I estimate a 10%growth this year and 2013. The Eps should be at 2.6 in Fy 2014 without dilution. That should provide for adequate returns assuming the market prices a favorable pe.

The present value of a stock takes into account and most times is based on future returns of that company...

So KP may seem undervalued to you now but the market may be discounting a future huge drop in earnings due to competition, alternative cheap sources of energy (solar), loss of mandates!

U make good points. However do u think its justified to trade at pe of 7. And a forward of 6.5?

I've been watching it for a long time. Todays trade of 15.55 is the highest since book closure of bonus issue 5 months ago.
Clearly the share is excited because of end year results in sep/oct. bonus expected. paltry dividend may prevent "price discovery"
