Oh please! Let's be realistic here. A grenade is a very small device and easily concealed making it very hard to deter a grenade attack because it's thrown and the confusion caused by the blast gives the suspect enough time to escape. Even Americans find it hard to stop random shootings by disturbed civilians who should not hold weapons. So let's not condemn ourselves or the police at least we know they are preventing bigger things from happening.

Are you serious or being sarcastic. A reliable source in mombasa told me that there was absolutely NO visible attempt to increase security after the US terror warning-no road blocks, random searches and zero police choppers hovering above. And our goverments response is to write protest letters to the US. Surelly?!

Ever heard of plain cloth policemen? They dress and look like thugs.

and are these plaincloth cops psychic as well.how will they find the grenade if they dont search people, wont i think twice bout carryin a grenade when there is a probability of being stopped and searched at random? They should be thorough in doing their work..you get the feeling that they're not doing enough to secure the country.

It is not possible to go searching everyone everywhere....that doesnt happen anywhere in this world. What would work is if citizen collaborate with the police. Right now they are saying that 3 people went to the bar in a white car and minutes later the explosions occurred. Apart from the innocent citizens enjoying themselves when watching football...there must have been others who know who these suspicious characters are but will not say anything because 1. they are their friends, 2. they dont care since nothing has happened to them. This attitude should end.

On another note....if you watched THE NEXT BIG THING on NTV, There was a guy who presented a software/program that can detect ammonium nitrate (the substance that is used to make the bombs) he was looking for partners to invest with him and i think the dept of defense was willing to purchase his gadget if it works. Anyone with any info on this?

@murchr are you a member of the force! Look, citizens will come through with information when and if police get organized acquire some integrity and begin to work like they want to help citizens. So many cases of people snitching to police on possible crimes and criminals and same evening the criminals come after your head. Other times the policemen themselves engage in crime to add onto their wealth (and please don't talk about salaries). I am 200% sure you can move a nuclear war head from Nairobi to Embu, Nyeri, Nakuru etc safely past 10 police checks in the morning hours between 7- 11 am. The reason is simple, the police spend that time collecting revenue from mats, trucks and old pick ups, heck you can even move a fertilizer bomb in a new double cab track. You will never get stopped on these roads at those times.

Now someone said thorough and consistent checks would deter people from contemplating such criminal activities but with lack of interest or distractions such as revenue collection, there is every encouragement for criminals to have a party at us.

Terrorists are ferocious determined to strike under any situation . Police has a limit what they can do even if they want. The best way to deter terrorism is citizen policing. It's the best and most viable of the options . In a volatile region like kenya, they should bring policies to enhancing and strengthening sharing of crucial information with competent authorities. Also shared leads must be confidential and depending of importance should be compensated. Otherwise kenya will degenerate further to anarchy and terror aka kaduna and Kano very soon.

Confusion has clouded claims of an Irish woman’s involvement in Sunday’s Mombasa blast.
