The best thing about both cars you mention is that they are fairly good value for your money. Look at it this way - the Xtrail is about 0.5M cheaper than a Rav4. The Paj is also way cheaper than a Prado and that is how I would compare the two. No dissing, am all about value for hard earned money. The Xtrail is good value for money - but don't crash it (oops!) it's also cheap to run/maintain. If you want to hit some offroad (not just the few hundred metres from the main rd to your house), then the paj would work well.

Most people buy 4x4s for image purposes, not that they will ever go offroad.

Its also marketed in the UK under the name Shogun!!!

The xtrail can be compared to the Mini pajero. the xtrail is certainly more popular in kenya may be coz of the price.

When we come to the big/real pajero, you can't compare it to an xtrail. you now compare it to the Prado. Some write-ups rate it higher than some types of Prado's.

As Sigiriri pointed out, its more value for money compared to a Prado and is definitely more stable than a Prado. Apart from this 2 categories, the Prado beats it in every other category.

The pajero 2400/2500cc is a full size SUV that can only be compared to the 2700cc prado.

The 2000cc xtrail is a mini SUV that can only be compared to a 2000cc pajero io.

You will find similar sites with similar issues for any car model you choose. But true, Pajero does have a poor resale value because of its past unreliability. I think all this changed in the mid 2000's and vehicles manufactured after 2002 are as reliable as any.

Would like for Tuvok and mwatha to comment.

I concur. Pajero resale value not as much as say Toyota Prado. But the newer Paj's are pretty good, and can be had for less than equivalent Prados
