Core 2 Duo is newer than Duo Core and faster....in tech terms its like this:

-Duo core has 2processors,1shared register,1shared CPU cache memory

-Core 2 Duo has 2processors,2 registers(one for each processor),2 CPU cache memories (one for each processor) making them the fastest commercial locally available Intel processors around.

For normal computing i doubt you need 2GB Ram unless you usually do heavy graphic games and maybe design n stuff. For normal use 1GB is enough plus u can upgrade later since prices will have significantly dropped say even one yr from now.

Core 2 Duo with 2GB ram i think should cost from 60k upwards depending on other specifications

White,I agree with birdman about the diffences and they are actually clearly evident as you go about various activities DVD burnig being one of them. I have dealt with a wide array of laptops and always ttry to keep up with technology and I can add my 5o cents worth of knowledge. With a Core 2 Duo,you do not have to worry about being obsolete any time soon. This is because,Intel the major processor manufacturers are currently working on energy efficiency and not processor speeds after the introduction of Intel Quad 2 Core which is a high perfomance but consumes power like hell. This has seen the launch of Intel atom,a power efficient processor that can even run on a lithium battery like the mobile phone one. Intel celeron is out of the market especially in America and is only available in refurbished comps and ultraportable laptops (the ones the size of an envelope).

First question,why do you need a laptop? Unless you need to be mobile,you wll probably pay twice for what an ordinary pc with the same capacity can do. Laptops come with issues,like you MUST take out insurance. If no need for a laptop get a good PC with a TFT screen from an authorised dealer. Importing yourself might be cheap,but if something goes wrong then you will have small problem,even authorised dealer will keep away,or charge an arm and a leg.
Second question,what will you do with it? If it is just productivity tools (Microsoft Office) and internet,then the duo stuff will be a misplaced investment,but chances are they are the only thing available if you are buying new.
I am on my third laptop. The first was a celeron Toshiba,second was an HP/Compaq NC6000 and I now use Dell latitude. Toshiba was the best by far - I don't think they make them that good anymore.
Point of note - when I got my Dell early this year,I removed the Vista the next day. Couldn't get my printer and scanner to work. I use XP SP2.
Finally,it is the support that really matters,not the make.
