I opened a saving account for my child with one of the banks. I never use the ATM despite the fact that I have one. A few weeks ago, I realized that sometimes last yr some cash was withdrawn from the ATM 2 times en I have no idea who did it. During this time, the ATM had expired en the bank had automatically renewed the ATM card which they say, they later discarded it after sometime coz I did not pick it on time. En this is precisely the same duration the cash was withdrawn.

I have been toiling in the bank en am taken from one desk to another explaining the same story, with no help. They even promised that they would view the CCTV camera with me to find out who withdrew, but it does not seem to bare fruits.

Anyone who knows how I can go about it?

Went through something like that with meba. I was withdrawing the max 20,000 unknown to me "someone" somewhere was withdrawing another 20k so twice I withdrew 40k without my knowledge until I got hold of my statement and spotted it. Caused a scene at the bank and the customer care a couple of times until they refunded 3weeks later. Yours is a bit complicated since you were not utilizing the card.
But with these folk I have come to realize you need to confront them with sura ya kazi and if possible, threats about going to anti-fraud and press.
Advice to others, maintain those ATM slips and constantly get statements. ALOT of our money disappears without our knowledge.

I beg to differ.... this is a straight forward case... the card that withdrew the money was WITH THE BANK... they must pay back your child's money today... go back to that manager and tell him/her within 24 hours that you expect a call from him/her stating that your money is back in the account, otherwise you will institute recovery process at their cost.... no bank wants that i can guarantee you, especially in a situation that is pointing at the bank as the thief...
When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart.

Not all banks will notify you irrespective of how many times you check the debit box.

I operate my finances thru 3 different banks and among them Equity have never notified me when a withdrawal or deposit is made. I have gone to their customer service three times and given some form to fill and nothing changes, the other two NIC & Stanchart are very convenient at that. Guess someone at Equity is sleeping on his job and Dr. Mwangi should act on him.
