I don't know the criteria used to select those who perform at public functions such as as this full of people from various backgrounds and dignitaries from all over.
I find some performances odd, misplaced, not in tune with the mood or season.
It's such a shame.

Even the Bible says there is a time for everything and that applies everywhere and to all,so why turn madaraka day into a religious sects performances?
Sects whose diff, can only be told by the length and colour of gowns won.

I believe there is more we can display as a nation but people running around with flags and beating drums make it look like a vodoo ritual.

I highly agree! I was also wondering who the hell slotted a place for those guys! There was nothing to enjoy or celebrate the 49 yrs from that religious presentation! But for the Mama Lucy state house choir, that was a job well done! beautiful voices, well organized en in theme with the event! Well done mama Lucy!

I watch this kind of events for one scene only.

The Presidential Lap.

This is one show that has never disappointed me one bit right from the M Oh One days. The Presidential Body Guards take the Lap jogging along seemly without breaking a sweat and not a crease can be seen on the nice fitting dark suits.

The scene is brilliantly choreographed as if from a high class movie. None has ever tripped. None has ever dropped a gun yet it well known each carries more than one under those neat suits.

The script had one tiny hitch once when the Nusu Mkeka Boys decided they could be part of The Show but the Mtukufu Rais Boys put them in their rightful place without breaking a stride.

They are all tall, dark, lethal looking type of slender. Not an ounce of fat, none with a pot belly.

To the Men who have dedicated their lives to taking a bullet for the Commander in Chief, I bow my head in deep respect and gratitude. Thank you for not only protecting His Excellency the President but also for making it look so good.

After His Excellency is safely in his seat, I usually change channels or simply switch off the television, for the rest of the show is usually, well, hogwash.

That is not patriotic.I used to enjoy the traditional dances but they have replaced them with 'mikono juu ya hewa' kind of songs
