Hi all, I've put the NSE-listed banks through the ranking model. You can see the results at the following link: Stock Showdown: Ranking Kenya's Best BanksYou all know these banks first-hand, so I would love feedback on how accurate this ranking feels to you. Many of the banks are looking to issue rights soon, so that has been influencing valuations. As always please don't hesitate to suggest improvements to the model! Many thanks, Ryan

You ask of what will reedeem NBK. Maybe new management will... Where did you get the figure of roughly 43% of Equity being owned by foreigners? That is a significant amount Great job again! GOD BLESS YOUR LIFE

Ryan I'm 100% sure you don't work for a Kenyan stock broker. Great job with that analysis. It makes sense for us the unsavvy investors. Just a super job and by the way, your blog is great too. Good work, obviously took your time, how come there is no mention of I&M, CBA and Citi banks "The purpose of bureaucracy is to compensate for incompetence and lack of discipline." James Collins

KCB should be first. There has been an aggressive campaign to get people to buy EB shares. Why is that so? I see it everywhere.....and this is just one such article.

As much as KCB seems to earn huge profits they are not even scraping their full potential.. Banks like equity are very efficient in their operations hence the high ranks... Put simply if KCB was as efficient as Equity or DTK we would be talking of 21billion PBT last year.. Mark 12:29 Deuteronomy 4:16

Obi 1 Kanobi wrote:Good work, obviously took your time, how come there is no mention of I&M, CBA and Citi banks Well @hoover wrote: "I've put the NSE-listed banks through the ranking model." Neither I&M, CBA and Citi banks are listed on the NSE. FYI: I&M did a private placement in Dec 2010 & is likely to list at some point (when DEG & PROPARCO want to cash in) but will it be in 2012 or (post-elections) 2013? Greedy when others are fearful. last month sib gave a valuation update on kenya banking sector. They said "KCB remains our preferred large-cap (39.9% upside ) while NIC is our preferred small-cap (+116.3% upside)." http://www.sib.co.ke/media/docs...Sector-VU-11-04-2012.pdf

I&M did a private placement in Dec 2010 & is likely to list at some point (when DEG & PROPARCO want to cash in) but will it be in 2012 or (post-elections) 2013? I&M tops all tier 2 banks. It leads NIC, DTB, CFC, CBA et al. Word has it that they are eying SS/RW. Waiting for their Q1 results

What is a Tier-1 Bank? What is a Tier-2 Bank? What is a Tier-3 Bank? Please provide facts/links or other info that verifies the answer (rather than an opinion). Is it based on asset size? Who determines it? What is the cut-off (range) for each tier? Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

Thanks. I see it seems to be 'market share' that designates the 'tier'. Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett
