Deluge of Safaricom news today...

Safaricom discontinues uncapped data bundles
Mobile operator Safaricom has announced that the company will no longer offer its subscribers unlimited data packages in Kenya, citing misuse by some users as the primary reason for the cancellation of the service.

Funny that Collymore cites "misuse". It's an unlimited data bundle! What did he expect? People to limit themselves to 10mb per day for 200?d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!

misuse cud also mean streaming dirtY video/y.tube content.

Haha! Are they really concerned with what people surf?
By the way, what are your thoughts on Govt. efforts to monitor the net?

They will be shocked to know how much bandwidth is taken up by porn and other 'dirt'. It must be over 80%

i donot believe safcom stopped the 'unlimited ' Internet because of porn and other dirty stuff. i am thinking it was justnot profitable because it was actually NOT unlimited and with the competitor ( Airtel) giving truly unlimited Internet guess where customers were going ? they has to change plan .

In that CCK report I like what Yu and Airtel are doing to SAFCON....hehehe Access Kenya is also losing market like a fly....

...........Their fiber network is no longer useful to this big guys (airtel rides on AK fiber network in Nai,eventually they will have their own network)

@ Metasploit.....Hahaha, airtel rides on AK or KDN fiber?......... eventually they will have their own...... have they changed their model to stop out-sourcing???

The move by Airtel and Safaricom to lay own cable is set to hurt earnings of other carriers like Jamii Telecoms AccessKenya and Kenya Data Networks (KDN) that feed the two companies with wholesale internet.

Final nail on AK ????

I bet the cable is for interconnection between the two... KDN,AK and JT will still ride on redundancy of that cable and inter BSC and MSC connections..... not forgetting the backbone to major cities, either as main providers or redundancy providers

Major curveball heading CCK's way. Time to relook at the telco industry. I would be concerned as treasury with the financial distress in this sector. What happens if says 2 telcos were to fold? How many jobs would be lost & tax revenue?
Safcom is already too big to fail...
RAO should also disband CCK...
$15/barrel oil... The commodities lehman moment arrives as well as Sovereign debt volcano!
