If you were referring to me,

FYI:

I do not deal with this, nor am I affiliated with any digital satelite service provider, just sharing info where it may be useful.

@D32 - I was not referring to you or anyone in particular. I was just saying that the fact they responded soon after the complains here shows they might have a member in wazua or they are guests. Werewanga???
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Give it to the Somalis. I remember when we were in Campus, we had two in our class who could make long distance calls [Telephone booth] for free! I don't know ati you press zero sijui how many times, the listen to a certain sound the dial the number! Woe unto you if you found one on phone. He would talk for hours - luckily there were other booths. But at times they [along with others from other course] could take over like 3 booths.

Yes, it was not to me in particular, just setting the records straight, should anyone think that I am with DSTV. "a wazuan"

@dodge, which FTA model do you have, where did you buy and how much.

I use Astrovox FTA2400, bought it along Luthuli for about 2k back in 2010. It has blind scan and an RS232 port for updating firmware.
Check this thread for more information.
http://www.wazua.co.ke/forum.as...=posts&t=302&p=2

To get started, these are the price estimates back in 2010 when the $ was stable.
Ku dish, 90cm, about 2k
C band dish, 1.8m, about 4k.
Ku band LNB, 400/=
C band LNB about 1,500/=
RF cable and plugs/jacks
A shop called Spikes along Luthuli is a good place to shop for FTA items.
To know which satellites are receivable in your area, go to www.satstar.net

Alternatively, use www.lyngsat.com

For additional information, check out http://www.nairaland.com/7715/o...free-to-air-satellite-tv
There is a guy called Kungu from Limuru who tells of his dish farm.

You will have to learn stuff like FEC, polarity, baud rate, transponder frequency. Fortunately, a decoder that has a blind scan does all the "dirty" work for you. FTA is a nice, rewarding hobby provided you have space for the big dishes, currently, i only got Ku dishes nailing Eutelsat 36'E(DSTV) and Astra 4A, 4.8'E
PS,
I'm no professional in installation of satellites, just a hobbyist.
