Kenya power is just after profits but not service delivery.
At this rate money is becoming useless, everything on the rise from fuel, elec,NHIF and food.
Kenya is getting harder everyday economically.

I was shocked by the price of milk! One day it's 30/- the next it was 44/-
I hope the milk farmers increased their prices as well.

Have you worked out all the hikes on the sub-items, yawa! E.g. households consuming between 51 units and 1,500 units will pay Sh11.79 per Kwh from Sh8.10 per Kwh - that's a 45.5% increase!? Also this - It’s seeking to increase to Sh3.70 the charge per kilowatt hour (kWh) on domestic consumers for the first 50 units up from the current rate of Sh2 per kilowatt hour. That's a 85% hike!?

But inflation is on a downward spiral and CBR fixed up there for 6 months running... d'oh!

As usual most missed to see this quote. Yes, its never coz of mwananichi, but others...

Quote:
"We want to start the process (tariff review) to get funds for development of quality electricity supply and boost the confidence of multilateral lenders like the World Bank," Kenya Power CEO Joseph Njoroge told the Business Daily earlier.

$15/barrel oil... The commodities lehman moment arrives as well as Sovereign debt volcano!

As we're busy fighting NHIF, KPLC sneaks in this. I bet you most Kenyans don't know the implications while this is far worse than NHIF.

True, its far much worse! Energy costs (petroleum, electricity) should not just be left to profiteers. This high energy cost will impact on almost every sphere of life reversing the efforts already made in containing inflation.

First 50 units will cost 3.70/= up from 2/= (85% increase)

Between 51 and 1,500 units will cost 11.79/= per unit from Sh8.10 per Kwh .... (46% increase)

Those consuming above 1,500 units will pay Sh22 per unit from 18.75/=....(17% increase)

Fixed charge also goes up from from 120/= to 160/=.... (33%increase)

This is a disaster

The rank and file should be forgiven for thinking that the Govt. with a controlling stake would prevent it from happening. Business at usual though...
