Hey, want to go into strawberry farming. I have done a little of research and do believe that a market does exist. Want to know if there is any of you who has ventured into the same or has any information on the subject before i put in my money into it. The start up capital required is a lot and so the more the opinions and views, the more certain ill be on the decision i make.

Hi, have you been successful with this venture? Talked to some guy in the village who is doing it and seems profitable. Problem is there is no info available on the nurturing of the crop. There's a group in Fbook which has scanty info maybe you could try serching 'strawberry farming in kenya' If already doing it just holla am interested.

I'm starting in the next few weeks(2-3). I figured not many people know about it or don't want to share info. Regardless I'm still going at it, anyone interested in it will learn from me whether it succeeds or fails. All i can say right now is it looks like a good investment.

Good luck Nicky. Sounds like a profitable venture. I know last time I was looking for fresh strawb's in Nai it was a bit of a headache..

@Seraah i know about it. And if at all you do get them they are pricey. Supermarkets package them in 1/4 Kg and it goes for not less than KSh 250. Some might think this is affordable but if you consider the fact that farmers sell 1Kg at the same price then you realize that you are being exploited. My thoughts, the market for strawberries exist its only that major industry players(suppliers) want to close up the market to have more influence thus exploit both the farmer and the consumer.

@mmarto erthing is going good but its still to soon to to tell. We'll be doing our first harvest in 2 1/2 months so allow me to get back to you then. I also came across some new info that you can actually sell strawberry leaves and people are making a kill out of this.

I am also very interested to know. My father owns a shamba in Mt. Elgon, a very fertile area, and this sounds like a good project to do up there. Kindly share your experiences

@ekahindi what variety did you plant and how are you handling the birds.I know from experience they can be quite a challenge,a friend recommended spraying sunlight.

Goes to show how powerful our detergents are! Are people still eating 'healthy' to avoid cancer? Someone advised me to buy food destined for export only, local food has no regulatory body and anything goes.
