Greetings Wazuans.

First off, thank heavens for a forum such as this where intelligent minds can interact.

I am a newbie to investing but want to start with buying some stocks. I have a 100 k to spend towards this.

What mix of particular stocks would the learned Wazua community recommend?

and this sought of questions will start trickling in pretty soon. but its no biggie .as long as you know what you want in the stock market . you can have allot of buy options.
some stocks haven't even moved since we hit a low of 3072 last year LOL ! thats what am thinking you should concentrate on .

@KenGen & KPLC

Guru267, do you sleep well with your money in a GoK controlled company? Lots of Shenanigans there. Eg, there are people who bought my KenGen at 32 after the IPO. Would you buy these in an election year?

@slykat what is it about wazuans & election years.. Paranoia if ive ever seen it...

you really believe the election will affect Kenyas growing demand for power..

Will the election destroy KPs current investments..

Will the election destroy kengens contracts with Chinese firms for digging geo wells??

All i know is that these stocks with bright futures and double digit profit growth are trading way below their book value and have single digit P/E ratios..
What are you waiting for?? Bells??

Another advantage of GOK firms like kengen & KP is that they are too big to fail smile

I wonder why people fear election years wereas they present opportunities for entry levels. I cant wait for the period of November 2012 to March 2013 and hopefuly for me i want it to extend to June/July 2013. Amid the fears and uncertainities lies the strength to invest more.

KING G: That is true. And that's why,we the bears, are comfortable with Kibaki's date of March 4 2013.Even if they said it was August 2013,the better it would have been for the bears.....

GURU 267: stop mis-advising our new investor. If you read--The Warren Buffet Way,you will realize if you have a 100k to invest, don't diversify.Put it in a few good counters and let it grow.Diversification is for people who are not very sure of where to put it.My advise to that guy is--put 100k in one counter like KCB.Then relax and light up your cigar(for five years)!!!

@Alibaba I was advising a new investor who may not be good at picking stocks..

And having 3-5 stocks in ones portfolio is better than owning only 1..

1.What if the CBK closes KCB,
2. What if KCB goes bankrupt due to a huge bad loan,
3. What if commercial banking no longer exists in a few years,

This is a rubbish diversification..

What is the point of owning two companies which..
1. Have a Similar Market capitalization
2. Operate in the same markets
3. Have similar Market share
4. Have similar valuations
5. Are in the same sector

90% positive correlations
