A few weeks ago a colleague who had a bad cough went to a local hospital after a clinic she was getting treatment failed to cure the cough. She was strong and when she got tested the doctors advised her to get admitted for more test...she was there for only 4 days the 5th day she was gone.Thats when I realized how deadly pneumonia can be. Yesterday another lady was rushed to KNH after another local hospital was unable to 'handle' the disease.I have heard numerous cases of this disease and I am worried that most local hospital are unable to effectively treat this disease. They dish out antibiotics for every cough I wonder how many people die because of this haphazard care.

Check how Wikipedia describes its cause.

Quote:
Pneumonia is due primarily to infections, with less common causes including irritants and the unknown. Although more than one hundred strains of microorganisms can cause pneumonia, only a few are responsible for most cases. The most common types of infectious agents are viruses and bacteria, with its being less commonly due to fungi or parasites. Mixed infections with both viruses and bacteria may occur in up to 45% of infections in children and 15% of infections in adults. A causative agent is not isolated in approximately half of cases despite careful testing. The term pneumonia is sometimes more broadly applied to inflammation of the lung (for example caused by autoimmune disease, chemical burns or drug reactions), however this is more accurately referred to as pneumonitis.

I know a case where someone died within a week of being diagnosed with pneumonia. BTW, is there a connection between it and cold weather? Or is this just another myth?

@Laughing out loudly! there is but not because of the cold weather...The action pple take during the cold weather makes it very easy for viruses and bacteria to spread i.e poor ventilation.

We like to blame doctors but they are not always to blame. An early pneumonia would be cured by simple common antibiotics.

But what happens is that we get an upper respiratory tract infection, take all remedies even if it is an infection. The infection spreads to the lower tract which is pneumonia. If you have a cough for longer than 2 weeks, go see the doctor.

Please also note, a number of pneumonias (and not only TB) may be related to HIV. So it may be more complicated than just a plain pneumonia.

....above all, to stand.

Two questions:

Is there a vaccine?
How comes healthy people check themselves into the hospital and pass away after a few days, wrong medication that speeds up the process maybe?

BBI will solve it

Was it really pneumonia? There are several rapidly fatal conditions which present with cough and chest pain which would not respond to antibiotics of any kind. The obvious diagnosis here is a pulmonary embolus. Just because the doctor said it was pneumonia, doesn't mean that it was. There is no vaccine.

pneumonia is caused by very many different organisms, so when you mention "vaccine", maybe for bacteria (since they are the leading cause of pneumonia)...vaccines for viruses are also being developed...

What cause of death would people find acceptable??? There are thousands maybe millions of ways to die. Pneumonia is just one of them. God gives life and God takes it away, any way He chooses. Celebrate the lives of all you love when they are here, when their time comes for them to go ...... let go and let God.

Live!!!! Live!!! Live while you are still alive because one day you will not be, then you will have all the time in the world to contemplate death.
