They were given a very cheap loan from an international financier, and i even commented on it here. Remember, KCB, Coop, Faulu etc are busy wooing people to deposit cash with gifts, while equity has cheap international loans. Let me look for the LINK! http://www.standardmedia...14&j=&m=&d=[/quote] Correct. The loan was from IFC. Always remember gentlemen, Equity has a AAA rating. Better than the biggest global banks. Getting money for them takes a simple phone call. Pile up on this one friends.

To further emphasize on that point Equity Bank was evaluated in November 2011 by Global Credit ratings and they maintained AA- for LT and AAA for ST. They have such a huge customer base that they don't need to incur millions on marketing strategy to woo customers to deposit. The ratings are so GOOD that international financiers are tripping over themselves to give Equity a loan which I don't think they need to be honest but they are in such a strong position that they get really attractive terms on them that they pass on to their customers (well specific customers ie farmers, microbiz, etc)so win-win situation thus the low growth of 4.74% y-o-y on provisions of the group to 728Mn. Cde just remembered something from the briefing yesterday. James Mwangi mentioned that the expenses associated with the staff training from Rwanda and Tanzania subsidiaries for the full year 2011 were all expensed in Q1 2012. That definitely depressed the bottom-line, PBT would have been probably 4Bn if they chose amortisation right?! Will try get the exact figure if possible... Quick question just been reading BD (I know it should be the first thing I do in the morning) and came across a litigation case between SK Macharia and ROAR that will be re-opened. The article mentions "multi-millions" though quotes 56Mn as the figure SK was instructed to pay ROAR. QW,cde, the deal..what do you think the effect of this will be on ROAR? SK was potrayed as the victim in the article and will definitely be fighting to the death with ROAR over this. Thoughts? Follow us on Twitter @genghiscapital “Be a yardstick of quality. Look here QW, it is common sense that a new business is a consumer of costs, thus, it is from that common sense that I say KCB Group has been there & done that as far as EAC expansion is concerned. Go run a tuck shop 1st then invest in stocks or forever rely on cartoons & keep mum about fundamentals.

Guys its too soon to write off KCB. Last year MEMBA Q1 PBT grew by a whopping 73% to 2.9b while KCB grew by 32% to 2.5b. This year all KCB's income lines grew with drawback being cost of funds and a shrinking loan book. This can be rectified and with KCB cost management becoming better who knows? The race is wide open and its a marathon which cant be judged by one quarter!

Well on their way to cooking the books to the biggest corporate profit in 2012. I believe that was stated somewhere as one of their goals.
Incidentally Lehman Brothers and AIG were given excellent credit ratings right before the 2008 fiasco..........

@qw KCB will roar this year with an EPS of 5bob as promised by the chairman.. DPS will come in at 2.75 and NAV per share of 18bob.. At current prices Equity cannot touch KCBs fundamentals with a long pole.. Mark 12:29 Deuteronomy 4:16
