Eiiiii ..na watu wana wembe?..

The maths mwalimu with the kiboko showed us to solve the brackets first then off them (multiply with adjacent literal to the left), then left to right ... so I would have arrived at 1,..but MaichBlack is very very convincing Applause Applause ...now I am more confused then ever .. Pray Pray

Now now I have become wise.
The answer is 1.

You cannot multiply before removing what is in the brackets first.

6/2(1+2)= 6/2(3) Pause there!
We must get rid of brackets b4 division and how d u get rid of brackets? you multiply 2x3 to get 6.
later you divide.6/6=1.smile

If we want 9 as the answer we do it like this.Everything in blankets.
(6/2)(1+3)= (3)(3)=9smile

shame on me.

Let us write down what you have posted...

Brackets first and then remove the brackets by multiplying hence BODMAS now becomes:

BOMDAS

The O in BODMAS contrary to what your teacher told you does not mean take brackets off but refers to exponents (powers and roots). Otherwise we have double multiplication resulting in:

BMDMAS

Laughing out loudly

you just added a * after the 2 before the brackets. That changes everything.

The correct answer should be 9. its simpler to understand if you treat 6/2 as a fraction.

When multiplying a number with a fraction you don't multiply with the denominator, you multiply with the numerator.

Assuming the (1+2) is in the denominator (divisor), this actually means 6/(2*1+2*2) which equals 6/6=1. The only way to get 9 is to put the (1+2) in the numerator. Applause
if you type 6/2*(1+2) into the fx82MS, you get 9 because you clearly indicate the (1+2) is in the numerator by doing so

Did the universal rules of mathematics change BODMAS

6/2(1+2)=

Work the brackets first so 1+2=3
then Division so 6/2=3
then Multiplication 3*3= 9

If you choose to multiply first the equation will be 6/2*3=18/2=9
