@Kaigangio - Runda has a larger ecosystem than Aberdares and the Mau if you know what I mean. Hahaha.

But with credit to them,I think they are trying to adopt a softer, broader multi-pronged approach to the whole issue. Only thing is that though they may have a legitimate cause, they must be careful not to come across as overly-eccentric or deceptive.

Time and chance happen to all.

runda assoc members should let all the effluent flow into the wetlands... provides water, fertilizer, and a bracing smell that will clear the lungs!

Can someone pls explain to me if the entire area likely to suffer ecological damage due to the construction of the Northern Road bypass, only lies along the 60 meters wide area where the road will pass through? If so this is an amazing natural phenomenon that we need to treasure for posterity, tourism etc. However if it does not only lie on the 60 meters wide section,it would also mean that those Runda houses have been constructed on a sensitive area and should also all be demolished so that nature can truelly be conserved.

I think these rich people, who do not want to mix with 'reckless drivers driving poorely maintained vehicles' were all taking us for a ride. Bura Kabusa. Pumbavu kama Mavi ya kuku.

Now that the construction of these road bypasses has been launched by none other than the head of state, the Rundan's had better get ready for what they refered to as 'reckless drivers driving poorly maintained vehicles'. Bypass kweli inakuja.

'These valleys are characterised by both permanent and seasonal marshes and swamps dominated by papyrus, typha reeds and other emergent grasses. It is at this site where ground water emerges and re-enters circulation in Ruaka– Githogoro surface hydrological network.' - Transaltion : Hiding behind the peasants again. No mention of Runda in the entire article. By the way,do you know what typha reeds are? We will bombard you with jargon till you are dazzeled and accept our point of view.''

Could some one explain to me if these 'Typha reeds' only grow along the 60 metres wide road reserve or in the area generally. If its only along the 60 meters reserve then we have a wonder of nature on our hands. But nature doesnt work like that, just as in the case where straight lines DO NOT exist in nature, the Typha Reeds must also grow generally, meaning that most of those houses in Runda have been built in these Typha growing areas and that a vast majority of them have already been destroyed as a result.

For those of us who did not know what Typha was below is soem destcription from Wikipedia.
