Personally I'm so frustrated with Safaricom modem as I fell 'hook, line and sinker' for the hype and upgraded to 21mbps modem.

I'm considering a downgrade as even when it writes HSPA+, download speed is more intermittent than WCDMA. I resorted to Orange which delivers better.

Just now using both modems:

@muganda, On Orange:

*are you using the EVDO which goes upto a max of 3.1Mbps or their new 21Mbps modem

*Are you on bundle or unlimited package

*do orange cap speed on their unlimited data package

Am also tired of the slow safcon unlimited package and am shopping for the best alternative

Can one get a 42Mbps modem (or higher) that is not locked to a given service provider. Such that when it comes to kuhama one will only buy the new line?

I really donot understand safcom why shout at the top of the hill you have a 42 mbps network and subscribers will still get capped at 64 KB/s. Its total bulllshit. They say akili ni nywele but sadly bob collymore doesnt have both.

I hear bob will be selling the 42Mbps modem at KES 25K. Damn!!! Does he have to bring a new modem every time he upgrades. Cant he adopt a futuristic approach and bring a modem that will cover future development. I agree @QW, "Its total bulllshit. They say akili ni nywele but sadly bob collymore doesnt have both." @mwekez@ji, newest 21mbps black modems for both, data bundles with no cap whatsoever.

Orange ZTE MF192 HSPA+ USB stick
Safaricom Huwaei E1820 HSPA+ USB Slider
