Not sure how clever this is - more new laws but still no enforcement? I know drunk driving, matatus, etc are causing grief on our roads but I feel lack of enforcement is 90% of the problem.

I think this is not a very clever way of going about it.

Both are needed actually. Enforcement and stiffer penalties that will make you think twice about how you drive. There was this time a truck driver driving on the wrong side of the road rammed into me. He was back on the road same day. Later appeared in court for some charge (reckless driving or something) and walked away with a 5k fine. The penalties/fines in the Act mean nothing today.

This other one is funny:
Quote:
Reckless drivers who overlap and or drive on pavements, walkways or through petrol stations to avoid traffic jams risk a three-month prison term, a fine of Sh30,000 or both.

which means i can drive on pavements or walkways provided thre's no jam??

.........enforcement is key
@For Sport,to drive on the pavement requires a psychaitrist not a traffic policeman.

....but for sure drink driving, mentally unstable drivers and unroadworthy vehicles need to be off the road and into jail

The solution to our problems are not new laws. Who says it is legal to do any of things contained in the draft law today? Law enforcement is the issue. Look at Mututho law, smoking bill, our constituition, etc, who follows them?

I agree with all of you,the fines are punitive, the law is badly/poorly drafted making the breakers of the law escape easily. The traffic section of the police force should receive a major overhaul and the traffic act itself should be re-drafted,a few weeks ago they was this accident which involved Belgian students from a ski trip it was breaking news on CNN and all major international news agencies to them such an accident is a rarity especially factoring the population size to the number of vehicles on the road...sisi hapa its a weekly occurence and the number of people who die is just unimaginable,we need to wake up -and smell the coffee our roads are killing us,rather the drivers on our roads are killing us,if you are a driver everyday is an added bonus coz you might a careful one but some idiot myt just do a silly mistake crash into you and you become past tense.Something needs to be done and fast...
