@ Masukuma.....Players such as Ronaldo (Brazil) & Muller had very good records for both Club and country...but they are not regarded as Legends, can you remember who scored for Italy in 2006 final? Nowadays CL football dictates how successful you are as a football player. That is why Messi won 2010 Player of the year despite his National Team's poor performance at the WC. He is not just a goal scoring machine but a football genius as well. Rarely is the ball allowed to leave his incredible sphere of influence....its as if its glued to his foot. Teams and managers go out of their way to neutralise the prodigy.

We are already comparing him to football greats at a very young age, we can only imagine what he's yet to achieve.

utamsahau tu!! unless he wins the worldcup.

When Pele asserts that Messi is yet to prove himself on the national stage, this smacks of sour grapes. One could also argue that Pele never proved himself in Europe and most of his goals were scored in the regional Brazilian leagues.

Also, defenders in Pele's era allowed forwards too much room to showcase their skills, unlike today, where the defending has been refined to an art. The Baresi/Maldini partnership comes to mind. Rio & Vidic would be hardly allow Pele all that room, yet we see Messi run rings around such accomplished defenders week in week out

The world cup is not what it used to be in the '70's and '80's. SA 2010 was an utter snorefest.(The African cup suffers the same affliction). For me, the World Cups pales in comparison to the quality of the Champions League, where Messi continues to make his mark.

I would rate Messi marginally above Maradona, with Pele third.

Soccer is a team sport, i don't expect Messi to win a world cup single-handedly. I never got to see Pele, some snippets of Maradona, but i would not take it from Messi just coz he hasn't won a world cup or clocked 1k of goals. He's phenomenal.

i think we are missing the point here...all the above are/were phenomenal players, Wizards, Geniuses.
In primary school and high school we used to have a certain wizard with the ball called Ephantus Kariuki Gitiba that guy was one with the ball. but our school was maembe in football and his sole effort could not move us so...he was never discovered. was he phenomenal? yeah, was he a great player - yes. was he the best player in the world...we cannot say - he never had the opportunity to prove himself elsewhere.
In order for you to qualify as a great player, you cannot be like Ephantus Kariuki Gitiba...personally very good but with a team that cannot assist you. Messi is the same with Ephantus, his national side is not helping him and he may never win 3 worldcups (ultimate achievement), he may never come close to 1k goals but he is the best of our time...he is the best NOW! we have to wait until he retires before making any ruling but as things stand - he is number 3. Will he like Pele become a legend and be remembered 34 years after his last match? having his name showing up in polls in obscure african forums? Let's wait and see!

Masukuma, you were in my high school and you obviously come from Nakuru Town, based on your going to primo with "Kirio". Funny still can't figure out who you are.

I can not make up my mind between:

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

And

Harald Anton Schumacher (Harald "Toni" Schumacher)

Sorry folks but my interest in Association Football ended with the end of the West Germany National Team.

(Football was made in West Germany)

Quote:
As the leader of the Uganda National Liberation Front (UNLF), Lule was installed as President after neighbouring Tanzania ousted Idi Amin[2] with help from the UNLF after his failed attempt to annexe portions of Tanzania (see Uganda–Tanzania War). Lule was the first of a swift succession of Ugandan leaders before the eventual return of Milton Obote in 1980.

Lule's government adopted a ministerial system of administration and created a quasi-parliamentary organ known as the National Consultative Commission (NCC). The NCC and the Lule cabinet reflected widely differing political views. In June 1979, following a dispute over the extent of presidential powers, the NCC replaced Lule with Godfrey Binaisa.

Absolutely right!! Lule now reincarnated as George 'Blackberry' Odhiambo, same speed, wit and all.

But I also forgot to put the stocky speedstar from Nyandusi land, the one and only one who put Shabana on the map - Henry Motego.
