Royal Bank of Zimbabwe Limited (Royal) has struck a $20 million deal with a Kenyan institution, businessdaily has learnt.

With the Kenyan institution headquartered in Mauritius, businessdaily also understands that the tie-up may result in the foreign investors getting a 45 percent stake in Royal Bank.

Mzwimbi said the east African bank was big in the small-to-medium enterprise market (SMEs) — a model they would want to grow and replicate in Zimbabwe.

“They are a huge player in the SMEs market and with Royal Bank’s 14 branches, we are better placed to expand that service,” he said.

It could be a financial institution... Britak's parent is based in Mauritius... Transcentury has a holding company or something like that in Mauritius... I&M Bank has a subsidiary in Mauritius too...

Cheers @Kollabo..indeed Fina bank comes to mind then I thought CBA too but they failed the Maur link. Following @VVS's line it brings out the Maur & KE linkage well but only I&M fits the bill perfect. Interesting...

The story says that the company has HQs in Mauritius. I&M HQs are in Kenya but they have a sub in Maur.

Well check this out re: I&M Bank & BC Rwanda

http://allafrica.com/stories/201111141180.html

Banking industry insiders who spoke to The EastAfrican say Kenya's I&M bank could be interested in buying a majority shareholding in BCR as it seeks to expand operations in the region.
