who determines who joins what? shouldn't the citizens of the current block members be allowed to participate in such a decision, maybe through a vote in their respective parliaments? Is Ethiopia a member?
When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart.

Ati Somalia to join EAC? They have been members for ages. may be officially, but as the folk in Eastleigh and south C will tell you, these guys are everywhere in EA.
Great men are not always wise, neither do the aged understand judgement...

Current EAC members vote to allow new members to join. That is how Sudans bid was rejected. Ethiopia is not a member.

Ethiopia is not a member, they want to join in 'observer' status, in a few years EAC will be doing so much business with them they ll be practically members ie they ll be supplying electricity to most if not all EAC countries

I think we should not allow new members apart from DRC. This is because, our goal is to become a political federation, with a standing army. We currently have a NATO like model, except for TZ. Do you expect that a country like Somalia, S Sudan, Sudan, or Ethiopia to surrender their sovereignty to arusha?

The goal of a political federation will be hard to achieve. There is too much mistrust with the Ssebbos wanting to lead such a federation.

Do we really have a NATO like model? All countries in the region seem to be pursuing peace in the region but with greater emphasis on their national interests.

Really? Thole WHOLE point is a political federation?
I don't buy that.
Some politicians [read M7] want it move that direction, but it will never be in the next 100yrs.
Politics is not everything, the element of political federation comes from security issues, internationally. It is not demanded by the people hence not happening.
I'm for economic federation, the rest leave it to the M7s of our generation. Be fed by UG and TZ,fueled/powered by SS/Ethiopia and then for the thinking, , , , ,

It's not the whole point, but it's one big point. In fact, it's what differentiates the EAC from other regional blocs in the world.

It seems as if the concept of a greater community has been in the offing for the past ten or so years, if discussions about a "kenyana" in a politico-military blog is anything to go by.

I personally support a political federation since we can't have a monetary union without a political federation, unless we want to fall into the dangers of the Eurozone

The amount of distrust would make the federation un-governable. TZ doesn't trust any EA,Rwanda has Kagame [it needs him] ,Burundi is just Burundi, then Somalia.
In my small thinking, it's not fathomable.
