@sirikal, you are sincere but wrong. Read mcreggaes post again. If I have 7 A plains I will have an average A plain with a total 84 pts. If I have 6 A Plains but 1 B plus I still have A plain average but with 82pts. Get it?

The point being missed is subtle: That there is a distinction in how the grades are assigned to individual students and computed for the entire school.

I will use and expand on McReggae's example to make this point. Suppose we have 2 schools each with 2 students. School 1's students both had 7 As and school 2 has one student with 7 As and the other with 6 As and a B. Both students in each school get assigned As and as a result, the schools' performance indices are calculated to be 12.0. In effect, they tie even though school 1 had students with more cumulative points.

The differences between the 2 schools emerge when the details of each student's performance are analyzed. The average score of school 1 could be 85% and that of school 2 could be 81%. In this case students of school 1 will be higher ranked than school 2.

If you are missing the larger implications of the point being made here, that if such incompetence, or, depending on your politics, manipulation of results, can pass unquestioned right under our noses, then what else is being done behind our backs?

Additionally, I did mention earlier that, purely on principle, it is always important to get the story and facts right. I would have thought that precision in one's affairs would matter to people interested in stocks, share prices, etc.
