my neighbour a suspected drug baron, once a bank manager until one morning plains cloths policemen stormed his house with a great commotion. to my surprise the man had managed to sneak out in the middle of the night unnoticed and left the country for tanzania and later shttling between yemen and zanzibar. he lost his job, career, his family lived a high life, flashy cars and all the pleasures but since that raid his family has been disjointed. no more cars, no flashy living etc. they live a strange life.....but inspite of it all he regularly drops home in the dead of the night once in a while. all lights are off except for the dim lights not so revealing. during the day the compound is locked from the gate with german shepherds on gaurd. life begins at 10pm when the children come to dine and sleep.the wife also comes and goes and spend most of her time in Tz and yemen. vehicles come and go in the night...lots of movement occasionally and thats how i tell the man is around. if the authorities wanted to nub him they can just trace and profile him to get him but it seems they are aware of his activities as much as he is aware of theirs. thats not all his brothers do the same bussiness and everyone knows it but nothing has been done. they live in adjacent compounds. those who are residents in mombasa especially in the estates would probably share a similar story to this coz this scene is played out in most of the places in Mombasa.

and, how have you benefited from this family's filth! If not, start helping this guy sneak to his family through your back/side door, or, just inform the media and host it for a 'jicho pevu' then ask for a pay!

this story has actually featured in the prime time news some time last year. the area residents too held a demonstration saying they would burn the house down...... the house is well fortified. you certainly wouldn't want to be involved directly.
