Mine was not an ATM case. A lady teller (Kip-whatever) at KCB sarit center issued me with an outdated 199(x) USD100 bill amongst 2006 bills, only realised it while at a FOREX, and i lost 400/- for that note! This happened in Mid Jan 2012!

No wonder they declare such bloody and cursed profits!

amount withdrawn=15000
amount received= 13700 (12 one thds notes,1 five hrd and 1 two hrds)

ATM receipt=15000

Amount keyed in =15000

Check the elephant at the bottom left hand corner of the front side of the note [next to lion's head]. The two halves of the elephant match perfectly when viewed against a light source.

In my view, this elephant is more secure than water marks, metal lines and UV marks.

BTW: If the machine gives you wrong amount, that matter ends there. You have already signed an indemnity when applying for the ATM card....

Did you read the terms and conditions of use?

@kompany, if wat you are sayin is true, then blame the person who loads the atm. The atm machine is ok, coz it dispenses wat its being fed with. There are diff cassetes for diff denominations, say 100,200,500 en 1000. So when loadin, the dude put the 500 en 200 note in the 1000 cassette, u get? Can be the dude confused or had taken a joint!

The beauty of kenyan currency notes is that different denominations have different sizes, unlike the US$, so how can a 100 note fit in a 1000 catridge or vice versa?

@dunkang, if its intention, that amounts to fraud..
@gekko
the cassetes are of the same shape en size, it aint like there made to hold the diff denomination...but, the intelligent atm, which can take deposit en recycle for withdrawal is an exception...
Take this for example, a friend of mine went to atm to withdraw 500, but the atm dispensed 1k. So he did this repeatedly en he parted with 5k, unlucky for him, when the recon was done he was debited the extra cash withdrawn..

If this machine can notice that it has issued more, can't it also know that it has issued you less!

For the case of fake cash, that must be FRAUD!

This advisory came from my bank this morning:

Dear Customer,

As your Bank and in conjunction with Kenya Bankers Association , we are making all efforts to prevent ATM fraud. Here are 5 tips that can help you ensure your money is safe when you make transactions at the ATM:

(1) Check the area before using the ATM. If anyone or anything looks suspicious leave at once

(2) Do not use an ATM that appears to have tampered card slots or cash slots

(3) Never accept help from a stranger, call your bank

(4) For your security, never count your money at the ATM

(5) Ensure that your pin number is hidden from view when typing it in

Please contact our 24 hour call center immediately should you suspect anything on 3221000/ 0719 088 000/ 0732 100 000.

Be alert! It’s your money , It’s your sweat.

With Regards,
