Unfair.....Taking advantage of their competitors weakness.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

I would also exploit the lacuna in the law if I were scom. Who regulates them - CCK? CBK? Since the Competitions Authority is in a coffin, they can even charge more and you wouldn't do jack.

I trust and truly hope that you are joking!

With three other mobile money transfer services available in the market; I think that anyone who thinks MPESA is too expensive can always use the others.

It's a free market and providers are free to charge as much as they wish!

I’m not a specialist in these things but I feel that this might be a bad idea for Scom. And since MJ left they no longer seem to be as innovative as they used to be.

@Mukiha, convenience goes a long way in determining the market, for Safcom customers, it is very easy to get an MPESA agent....that's why people have a different service provider for one phone, and maintain the other line for Safcom...

Keeping the agent happy is key to maintaining the vast network of agents that Safaricom has. Commissions are paid promptly and allow a majority to make money from their investments. And that's one of the reasons why the other competitors have not been able to attract agents to their business since in their short sighted attempt to undercut safaricom with lower charges, the margins their agents get are negligible. I have seen two airtel money agents in my neighbourhood rebrand their outlets to mpesa simply because they were not making enough money from airtel.

I preferred the previous system where the sender only spent 30bob sending to any registered member and the the widhdrawal fees depended on the amount!!!

I read this somewhere "if you want to withdraw 200 (now costs 25/), withdraw 100/ twice & save 5bob. If you want to withdraw 10k (now costs 145/)withdraw it twice i.e 7500 (cost 75bob) & 2500 (cost 25bob), you save 45bob. If you want to withdraw 40k (now costs 250/) withdraw it twice i.e 35k (cost 170) & 5k (cost 60/),you save 20 bob

withdrawing 10k is a 100bob...no saving will be made coz withdrawing 10001-15000 is 145. So if withdrawing 11k, withdraw 7500 @ 75bob and 3500@45. You pay 120 instead of 145 and save 25.

You are right on withdrawing 40k

Exactly... and Safaricom should charge for this convenience. You can't have the ambience of the Hilton for the price of Luthuli fish and chips
