With 4 cement factories (EAPCC, BAMBURI, MOMBASA, & now SAVANNAH)...

3 steel smelters (DEVKI and 2 others whose names I can't recall)...

The EPZ complex...

Isn't Athi River slowly becoming the Industrial capital of Kenya?

That recognition used to belong to Thika in the 70s and 80s... but most industries were in textiles and we all know what Mitumba did to them.

Interestingly, today, Thika has become a higher education centre... JKUAT, Mt KENYA, GRETSA are all based around the town plus many upcoming mid-level colleges.

In fact, many real estate developers have started converting their properties into student's hostels.

And while we are it; Nakuru has more than its fair share of supermarkets; not to mention that the two largest national chains (NAKUMATT & TUSKYS) originated from the town...
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

The promising thing for Athi River is the Konza city (If it ever become a reality) , the proximity of Athi River to Konza and Nairobi makes new defination of the commercial hub moving East which is good for everyone and more so those who had invested earlier in Athi River and its environs ie Kitengela,Machakos,Mlolongo etc.
The availability for land is also a plus for Athi River.
