Kenya's KenGen H1 pretax up 33 pct

Kenya's main electricity producer KenGen said on Tuesday its first half profits rose 33 percent to 1.7 billion shillings ($20.56 million) driven by higher elecricity sales due to better rains and new power projects.

Electricity revenue for the company, which relies on hydro powered for the lion's share of its power supply, rose by 13 percent to 7.1 billion shillings, it said in a statement.

I was actually sniffing around for Kenol's numbers when i stumbled on that link,thought it would interest a few wazuans.

Do they still hold the yen loan. I've not had a look at their books so far. If the loan is still in yens, they should save quite a chunk as the yen weakens globally. I expect those savings to pop up in H2 and final results in July.

The consumer will be equally happy. (Forex adjustments is a Pass Through expense)

The company recorded 1.7b profit and sees a stable 2nd half and is also venturing geothermal bigtime.
