Rink?

Wow....Kenya's British American Tobacco on Thursday posted a 65 percent rise in full year pretax profit to 4.48 billion shillings ($54.11 million) after revenues rose by close to a half, and a weaker shilling helped exports.

The cigarette manufacturer said in a statement that total revenues rose to 20.14 billion shillings in 2011 from 13.54 billion, while earnings per share jumped to 30.98 shillings from 17.67 shillings.

BAT said it would pay a final dividend of 27 shillings, bringing the total dividend for the year to 30.50 shillings compared with 17.50 in the previous year.

"The exchange rate benefit on export revenues also contributed to revenue growth. Total domestic and export volumes grew over the previous year driven by higher contract manufacture volumes as well as good performance in the Kenya domestic markets," BAT Kenya said

Another nice cheque to take home...10% dividend yield seems to be the standard firms are reaching for.

It all started with Williamson and most have followed its steps in declaring generous dividends.

I agree.. Historically Bluechips have recognized the need to keep the cost of equity to at least half the level of the cost of GOK paper which is currently @ 20%...

This keeps equities viable relative to bills and bonds since they offer a chance of significant capital gains to the investor...

BAT trades on a trailing PE of 8.39 and a dividend yield of 11.9%. I rate the company ACCUMULATE with a price target of Sh350 due to the fact that this set of earnings where partly inflated by a weak Shilling. The currency for East Africa’s biggest economy lost 20% in 2011. I’m also disappointed with the slow expansion in operating margins; management needs to do more in terms of saving costs going forward I expect fresh capacity at the Nairobi factory to be the key driver of growth. Other risks include increased competition from Mastermind Tobacco, taxes and Government regulation.Drool Drool Drool
