The problems of Kenya at independence were summarized as
- Ignorance (ujinga)
- Poverty (umaskini)
- Disease (ugonjwa)
Traditional ways of sorting these issues were
- to actually hire teachers and put up schools to teach to reduce ignorance,
- To invest in these areas to reduce poverty buoyed by the education provided before.
- Hire doctors and put up hospitals to treat disease.
The reality is that we have many challenges to achieving our independence dream, these are
- Poor physical infrastructure (roads, electricity, water)
- Poor social conditions in rural areas
And its a chicken and egg situation where one is a prerequisite of the other.
Do you think in light of the technology we have now, we can rework our approach i.e. expensive roads into the sparsely populated areas of our country e.t.c. M-Pesa reworked the way to do banking (until then people required a physical bank, infrastructure to get to the bank and conducive social conditions for the bank employees).
Can we think outside the box and find a way to resolve these issues with today's solutions Because we need to resolve them FAST! We cannot wait for the infrastructure to be rolled out!
