Hi members of wazua.com, I have a business idea that I intend to find a venture capitalist to fund. Can you recommend a venture capital company in Kenya that can do that?

Hi,
Are you ready to give up 80% of the venture in exchange for the funding?
Many of us want to eat our cake and have it, so as you look for venture capital be ready to let go

Most wazuans [me included] can fund a business idea if it is viable and well thought out. We can even form a consortium of sorts. Most of us are all about making money! How much do you need? What sector is your idea based on. You can discuss your idea in general here and any interested party can contact you for details, confidentiality agreements [and other paperwork] etc. etc. The ball is on your side. Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Note that less than 5% of venture capital goes to early stages of companies that is those taking the risk to develop innovative products. Usually venture capital follows innovation, these capitalists seek companies that are already with working capital, products and business models. They come with their money and most times their management style and sometimes a few people to compliment the exixsting team and drive the company to the heights they wish. Venture capital does not stimulate innovation it waits and wants in once the venture looks to be profitable or has picked direction - they invest their money by buying stock, push their agenda and push towards an IPO, recoup their investment, retain their shareholding and claim credit for the success of the venture into perpetuity. Now about that idea, critique the idea, look for buddies who share in the entrepreneur spirit, attack it in increments depending on how much capital you can raise, use the dinner table as your office, maybe use your backyard as the operations area and explore opportunities. Down the road your will bump into these capiatalists and they will make the idea explode - na hapo umefika, Don't give up!

Is your idea big? How much capital do you need? Venture capitalists are not usually the best, they will take up shares, involved in the management of the company. Sometimes, the idea you have can only be conceptualized, re-designed, implemented and actualized by the person who initially came up with the idea. If you have some capital on hand, I would suggest you first operate from a virtual/serviced office. This way you will test your idea without investing a lot of funds. A virtual/serviced office helps you reduce your capital expenditure and allowing you spread the small capital you have over a long period. If your capital at hand is 500k, operate from a virtual office provider like VOS: http://www.vosoffice.com and spread this capital over many months. You get the exact office space you require and avoid/reduce costs like; office lease, office partitioning or furnishing costs (over 300k), HR costs (no need to hire a receptionist (15k), cleaner (8k), e.t.c), a phone system (80k), fibre internet connection (15k), LAN (30k), computer system and networking hardware (100k), server (200k), and many more. You get to allocate money for marketing and adverts, professional support for your business, ready IT systems, free internet access, and many more services. I operate from a serviced office, and it worked!! All the best.
